Smart Start Class
The Smart Start Summer Bridge Program is a free, comprehensive two-week summer class offered from Monday, July 20 to Friday, July 31, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
As part of the Student Success initiative, this program supports students’ transition to college by providing academic instruction and reviews on math and study skills. This program is ideal for first-time, first-year students who are nervous about taking college-level math and want to review fundamental concepts. It is also suitable for individuals seeking to enhance essential study skills, including test-taking, time management, and study techniques, as well as guidance on utilizing college resources before attending NCC.
Over two weeks, participants will take a refresher course covering fundamental math skills, helping them build the confidence to succeed in their college math classes. Mornings will be dedicated to math skills, while afternoons will focus on practical study techniques, team-building activities, and strategies for academic success.
Who is eligible to apply?
Students who:- Are First Time Freshman and plan to attend NCC full-time during the Fall 2026 semester.
- Are placed into a remedial math class at NCC (math020 or 022) or had a QAS score of 200 to 274. Students will receive a refresher to help them succeed in future math courses.
- Are high school graduates from Bethlehem, Easton, Northampton, and Allentown School Districts in 2026 (dual enrollment students do not qualify).
- Have a high school GPA ranging between 2.50 and 3.55, or require help understanding college expectations and demands (need help with study skills).
- Have financial challenges or need financial aid (low-income students may need more financial knowledge and resources).
- Are first-generation college students who would benefit greatly from mentorship or a strong support system.
Attention:
The deadline for applying is June 1, 2026. This program is limited to 25 students.
Students who complete the two-week program will earn credit for Cols101. Please note that students who miss any class day will not be able to earn credit for the college success class.
After you complete this program, yearly services include:
- Academic support during the Fall and Spring academic years in the form of tutoring, academic coaching, and other resources to help you succeed.
- Mentoring opportunities with the Smart Start Staff and other Faculty Members.
- Help with completing financial aid forms and scholarship forms.
- Priority registration and advice to ensure you meet all prerequisites and achieve your graduation goals.
- Support if you wish to transfer to four-year institutions.
